Good Spot
Bike Boxes
2015
Vibrant and functional, Bike Boxes add colour to a community car park where profits go back to local placemaking projects.
The Bike Boxes are an every day bike storage solution designed to be secure, affordable, attractive, simple to install and applicable in nearly any development.
Part of the wider urbanism project GOOD SPOT, a central city car park in Fletcher Living’s new One Central neighbourhood, Bike Boxes were developed to add colour and functionality to urban spaces. The tesselating form, design and fabrication were all refined to consider this concept at a larger, replicatable scale in other locations.
Typical high density bike storage requires a roof to cover both the bikes stands and circulation space. This usually involves foundations and secure fencing over a larger area. These Bike Boxes consist of a self housed unit, requiring only the amount of space necessary to accommodate a bicycle. This means large roofs, foundations and fencing are not required, saving cost of fabrication and construction.
It is one of several projects Gap Filler delivered alongside Field Studio.
